About Phu Soi Dao National Park

Phu Soi Dao National Park is located on the border of Uttaradit and Phitsanulok provinces in northern Thailand. It covers a rugged mountainous area centered on Phu Soi Dao peak, which rises to 2,120 meters (6,955 feet), making it one of the highest points in the region. The park features steep limestone cliffs, lush evergreen forests, and scenic waterfalls fed by streams running down from the mountains. The cool, misty weather creates a refreshing environment that supports a variety of plant and animal species. It is especially famous for its rare wildflowers, including several species of orchids and the blooming of pink and white Himalayan cherry blossoms in winter. The park’s terrain offers moderate to challenging hiking trails leading to scenic overlooks and waterfalls such as Namtok Phu Soi Dao, Namtok Pa Kluai, and Namtok Krok Krua. Visitors can experience camping areas set amid peaceful forests and enjoy opportunities for wildlife watching, particularly birds and gibbons. Historically designated as a national park in 1987, Phu Soi Dao protects important natural habitats and provides a refuge for local wildlife. Its remote location and natural beauty attract nature lovers, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking less crowded access to Thailand’s highland wilderness. Visitors often combine trekking with visits to local hill tribe villages for cultural enrichment. The park remains a vital conservation area while offering recreational opportunities in a serene mountain setting.
